God in the House

“Therefore, this is what the Sovereign Lord says, ‘Look! I am placing a foundation stone…a firm and tested stone. It is a precious cornerstone that is safe to build on. Whoever believes need never be shaken.” Isaiah 28:16 NLT

This past weekend was the fifteenth anniversary of the 9-11 attack at the World Trade Center in New York City. I remember that day like it was just yesterday as my co-workers and I watched the horrific images of the second plane crash into the second tower on television. Then what seemed like just minutes the twin towers came down in a rush and the debris and dust seemed to wrap its tentacles across the city. What had begun as a normal day had in an instant been embraced by evil.

But God…at Ground Zero within the chaos of the hellish landscape a story from Chaplain Ray Giunta who spent 68 days at Ground Zero comes forward. He describes a place within one of the caved in buildings that the first-responders called “God’s House.”

According to Chaplain Ray, as he writes in his book “God @ Ground Zero”,
“Inside what was left of the U.S. Customs building was a small miracle that everyone held on to…a construction worker had stumbled unto it. A part of the north tower, Tower One, had fallen through the roof of the Customs building, creating a crater-sized hole all the way into the sublevels. Spray-painted arrows led inside, winding in and around the ruins; the floors above and below were comprised, and the surrounding din was loud, loud-deafening to the point of pain. But with a step inside the interior area, its roof open to the sky, nothing but an unearthly quiet was heard. And there, rising from the despair, were three broken girders standing against the twisted, crushed wreckage of the building’s offices. And they were, all three, broken off in the shape of crosses-distinct and heartbreaking.”

In the midst of everything that was evil and broken stood the symbol of victory. Friend, are your dreams shattered, your hopes in despair? I am not sure what chaos you are experiencing this day? Yet, in the midst of the rubble of life there is a firm and tested foundation that is our cornerstone, which can never be moved. This cornerstone is our Lord Savior Jesus who has taken upon Himself the scourge of humanity’s sin and its pain. He conquered death through His victorious resurrection and offers us hope when the foundation of life is falling around us. Seek Him!

FOR GOD’S LOVE STANDS WHEN ALL ELSE HAS FALLEN!

“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 8:38-39”
